We are delighted to announce that Glee Club Cardiff have triumphed at this year’s Chortle Awards, scooping the ‘Best Venue’ award for ‘Wales and West’ region.
On Wednesday 25 February - in a ceremony hosted by Frank Skinner and awards voted on by the public - online comedy bible Chortle.co.uk dished out its annual awards.
Glee Club Cardiff picked up the award for the fifth consecutive year and also completed their first double by also winning the prize for their Birmingham venue, which last won in 2004.
The Chortle Awards celebrate the best in live comedy and are awarded by a panel of judges and online votes from comedy fans visiting www.chortle.co.uk
Mark Tughan, the owner of the Glee Clubs, said: “We work incredibly hard to bring the best in live comedy to the Glee Clubs, so to pick up these awards is fantastic recognition for us after another year of grafting hard to put great live shows into both cities”.
“Over the past 15 years we have worked to firmly establish ourselves as the home of live comedy in the Midlands and Wales and will continue to raise the bar as high as we can.”
It was also pleasing to see Glee Club favourites Dara O’Briain, Russell Howard, Rufus Hound, Robin Ince, Rhod Gilbert, Tim Minchin and Sarah Millican pick up well-deserved awards.
