Zenyth

Please introduce yourselves to ilovecf.com and describe your music
My name's Rich and I play guitar for Zenyth. I guess you could describe our music as rock with a bit of indie chucked in. Think it's a bit tricky to generalise us into one genre!

How did you meet?
3 of the 5 us have been friends since school. We met Chud (our lead guitarist) in college and we met our drummer at uni.

What's on your mind today?
A bit of a headache and not much else! Its been a bit of heavy weekend and I’m struggling at the moment!

How has your year been so far?
It’s been really good for us so far as a band; a real learning curve. We’ve been busy gigging and writing and making some really good contacts to distribute and promote our new single ‘Fall’. (which is released 12th October!)

Cardiff, and South Wales in general, is a hotbed of creative talent, why do you think this is so?
Yeah it is. Some people have suggested its something in the water but as beer makes up most our diets I don’t think it’s plausible.

Who are your musical influences?
We’re all big fans of classic rock which is what we started playing when we first formed. Led zeppelin, the rolling stones, guns ‘n’ roses. Over the last few years we’ve really opened our horizons with what we listen to and I think you can really hear it influencing our sound over time.

If you had to review your last gig, what would you write?
Well it would obviously be the best review ever. I’d probably big up myself especially. Throw in a few criticisms about the rest of the guys like questioning why the bassist only has 4 strings, needs to play one note at a time but yet still hits regular bum notes! (that’s a running joke in the band). I think my mission would be to annoy the rest of them and leave me feeling pretty smug.

Which of you is the best musician?
As much as I’d like to say myself, Chud's pretty talented it’s got to be said. His concentration span leaves a goldfish looking attentive so it’s beyond me how he’s taught himself what he knows!

Do you think you have a Welsh sound?
Although our sound has been compared to bands like the Manics and Phonics, I’m not sure the comparison would’ve been made if we weren’t from Wales. But it’s a compliment all the same I think.

Which is your favourite Cardiff venue to play?
The Point was our favourite venue but some granny got the place closed down.

Tell us your plans for the future.
We’re putting all our efforts into the promo for Fall at the moment. Then me and Chris (bassist) are going to Thailand and Oz until Christmas. We’re going to write as much as we can and aim to get back into the studio early next year.

What is your favourite restaurant in Cardiff?
Balti Cuisine in Cathays. Amazing.

What is your favourite bar in Cardiff?
Whatever’s cheap on that night of the week!

What is your favourite club in Cardiff?
Clwb Ifor Bach seems to be the place we go at the moment but we’re not fussy.

Where would you take someone on their first visit here, to show them Cardiff at its best?
Its egotistic to say our gigs are Cardiff at its best, but I’ve got to say a Zenyth gig haven’t I?

Thanks for your time guys and good luck for the future.
